Temporary Places of Detention of Illegal Foreigners During COVID-19 Identified

Temporary places of detention of illegal foreigners during the COVID-19 national state of disaster have been identified.

The home affairs department published the list of correctional facilities in Government Gazette 43292.

The determination of correctional facilities was made in terms of the Immigration Act.

According to the notice, the correctional facilities will serve as temporary places of detention for illegal foreigners pending deportation or transfer to Lindela Holding Facility for purposes of deportation.

Facilities include Durban Medium C Unit B 2 Cell 5, 6, 7 and 8; Nelspruit Correctional Centre Unit D Cell 1; Lichtenburg Unit A Single Cell; Kimberley Correctional Centre Admission Unit and Port Elizabeth Special Care Unit single cells.
