Supervision for Property Valuer Candidates

July 15, 2014

South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession

Rules governing how candidates operate in the property valuers profession have been tightened up.

The Fifth Amendment to the Rules for the Property Valuers Profession of 2008 was published in Government Gazette 37805.

The amendment focuses on the restriction and conditions applicable to candidates and valuation work.

Candidates have to carry out work under the supervision and control of a professional fulfilling the role of supervisor or mentor.

Candidates are not permitted to look for valuation work independently. They can only participate in valuation work at the behest of their supervisor or another professional.

Professionals may also not take instructions from a candidate.

Payment for work completed must go to the professional or the practice concerned and not to a candidate.

The amendments come into effect on 11 August 2014.
