State of Disaster on Severe Weather Events Extended

July 20, 2022

Department of Cooperative Governance

The national state of disaster on severe weather events has been extended.

The cooperative governance department announced the extension in Government Gazette 47048 in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

The state of disaster was first declared on 18 April 2022.

It has now been extended to 18 August 2022.

According to the notice, the extension takes into account the “need to continue augmenting the existing contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state to address the impact of the disaster”.

In a statement, the department pointed out that government is working with various social partners to “transition affected communities from humanitarian emergency to stabilisation and recovery”.
