A Special Paper on Eskom will be published within the next few weeks.
The public enterprises department confirmed this in a statement on Eskom.
The Special Paper will set out the roadmap to put Eskom on a long-term sustainability path.
“This paper will reflect the urgent work that is taking place to identify options to resolve the debt challenge, the process for restructuring Eskom and importantly, to ensure a just transition.”
President Ramaphosa announced, during the State of Nation Address in February 2019, that Eskom will be restructured into three entities with a transmission entity first on the agenda.
The department also declared that about 200 technical and engineering staff will be deployed at power stations to ensure stable generation, the Chief Restructuring Office under the leadership of Freeman Nomvalo has begun its work, a team of experts is looking at a number of options to resolve Eskom’s debt and financial position, consultations on the future of Eskom will continue at Eskom management level and government level and some of the key recommendations of the Technical Review Team are being implemented to ensure power stations operate at optimal levels.
The department emphasized that government will ensure that “appropriate consultations will occur in particular with organised labour and other stakeholders on the position paper and the implementation of the separation project of Eskom”.
