SARS Commission of Inquiry Extends Comment Period

August 1, 2018

Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

The deadline for submissions on the Commission of Inquiry into tax administration and governance in the South African Revenue Service has been extended.

Submissions are now invited until 31 August 2018.

The commission was set up in May 2018.

A final report is scheduled to be drawn up by 30 November 2018.

The commission’s regulations were published in June 2018.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister of justice and constitutional development, John Jeffery, speaking at a public workshop on child trafficking in Cape Town, provided an update on the National Policy Framework on Trafficking in Persons.

The framework was currently under review with a view to finalizing it by the end of August 2018.

According to the deputy minister, the department holds the view that the “NPF’s strategy and action plan should be informed by internationally recognized anti-trafficking guiding principles such as a human rights/victim-centered approach; a multidisciplinary approach; government ownership; civil society participation; gender-sensitive approach and sustainability.”
