Salary of Deputy Public Protector Adjusted

December 11, 2020

The Presidency

The salary of the Deputy Public Protector has been adjusted.

The presidency announced the determination of the remuneration in Government Gazette 43982.

The determination was made in terms of Section 2A (5) of the Public Protector Act.

A total remuneration of R1 814 065 applied from 1 February 2020.

Meanwhile, in Notice 1333, the presidency published the salaries and allowances of the members of the Commission for Gender Equality.

The determination of remuneration was made in terms of Section 8(1)(a) of the Commission for Gender Equality Act.

The Chairperson receives total remuneration of R1 140 716, the Deputy Chairperson R984 162, Commissioners R915 818 and part-time members R3 634.

The salaries and allowances apply from 1 April 2019.

In a separate matter, president Ramaphosa has called for the momentum of economic recovery to be sustained after encouraging GDP growth in Quarter 3 of 2020.

The local economy rebounded by 13.5% in GDP during the third quarter of 2020 (or 66.1% on an annualised basis).

According to the presidency, “GDP growth in the third quarter surpassed even the most optimistic market expectations, with a surprisingly swift increase in economic activity as most restrictions designed to contain the spread of COVID-19 were lifted”.

The presidency also pointed out that gross fixed capital formation increased at a rate of 26.5% while GDP contracted 6% year-on-year.

The rebound in the third quarter was supported by the trickle-up stimulus effects of the emergency relief package announced in April 2020, which has included “direct payments to over 22 million South Africans through additional grant payments, the Special COVID-19 Grant and the COVID-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme”.
