Top municipal workers in South Africa are to receive no increase in salaries for the 2020/21 municipal financial year.

The cooperative governance and traditional affairs department announced the 0% cost of living adjustments of upper limits of salaries, allowances and benefits for municipal council members in Government Gazette 45420.

The determination was made in terms of the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers Act.

The notice points out that Gazette 43246 on determination of upper limits of salaries, allowances and benefits of different members of municipal councils published in April 2020 remains applicable.

Full-time mayors receive R1 404 260, deputy mayors R1 134 108 and members of the executive committee or mayoral committee R1 068 312.
