SAA Returned to Public Enterprises Ministry

The administration of South African Airways has been transferred back to the minister of public enterprises.

The proclamation confirming the transfer was published in Government Gazette 41813.

The transfer from the finance minister to the public enterprises minister came into effect on 1 August 2018.

The administration, powers and functions entrusted by the South African Airways Act were transferred.

In a statement, national treasury confirmed that the transfer “follows a study commissioned by National Treasury and the Department of Public Enterprises to develop the optimal group structure for the state-owned aviation assets.”

In a separate matter, treasury also, in a statement, announced that the Panel of Experts reviewing the current list of VAT zero-rated items had received an extension to the deadline to submit its report.

The report will now be submitted on 6 August 2018 and will be made public soon thereafter.

Treasury has also, in Gazette 41815, published an amendment to the commencement notice for the Financial Sector Regulation Act.

The commencement notice was published at the end of March 2018.
