Road Accident Fund Adjusts Statutory Limit

November 3, 2020

Department of Transport

The Road Accident Fund has announced a consumer price index (CPI)-related adjustment to the statutory limit in respect of claims for loss of income and support as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

The amount referred to under section 17(4)(c) of the Road Accident Fund Act 56 of 1996 has been adjusted to R297 877 with effect from 31 October 2020.

The announcement was published in Government Gazette 43855.

According to the notice, the purpose of the adjustment is to “counter the effects of CPI inflation”.

No claim for loss of income and support can exceed the latest limit.
Limits are adjusted on a quarterly basis in line with inflation.

Meanwhile, in Gazette 43856, the transport department called for comment on draft amendments to the Civil Aviation Regulations.

Parts to be amended include part 1 related to part 108 on air cargo security, part 1 related to part 141 on Aviation Training Organisations and part 172 on Airspace and Air Traffic Services.

Amendments are also proposed to Technical Standards on Aviation Training Organisations and Airspace and Air Traffic Services.

Comment is invited until 30 November 2020.
