Road Accident Fund Adjusts Statutory Limit

September 22, 2020

Department of Transport

The Road Accident Fund has announced a consumer price index (CPI)-related adjustment to the statutory limit in respect of claims for loss of income and support as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

The amount referred to under section 17(4)(c) of the Road Accident Fund Act 56 of 1996 has been adjusted to R295 322 with effect from 31 July 2020.

The announcement was published in Government Gazette 43726.

According to the notice, the purpose of the adjustment is to “counter the effects of CPI inflation”.

Due to COVID-19, the calculation of the adjustment is based on the March 2020 index.

No claim for loss of income and support can exceed the latest limit.

Limits are adjusted on a quarterly basis in line with inflation.

Meanwhile, in Notice 510, the transport department announced that CemAir has applied to the International Air Services Council to amend its international air service licence.

To be added to class 1 includes seven return flights per week to Lubumbashi, seven return flights per week to Luanda, seven return flights per week to Lagos and seven return flights per week to Dar Es Salaam.
