Department of Mineral Resources and Energy
Regulations Prohibiting the Sale and Dispensing of Petrol and Diesel into Containers have been drawn up.
The mineral resources and energy department published the Regulations in Government Gazette 44861 in terms of the Petroleum Products Act.
The Regulations apply to the retailing of petrol and diesel only and prohibit the sale and dispensing of petrol and diesel into a container.
The Controller of Petroleum Products will ensure that retail licensees comply with the prohibition.
The Regulations came into effect on the date of publication.
In a statement, the department pointed out that the Regulations were drawn up in the interests of public safety associated with the unrest recently experienced in the country.
The department added that the Regulations serve to “prohibit retail sales of petroleum products to members of the public in portable containers”.
The department also encouraged the mining and energy sectors to “remain steadfast in working towards maintaining the safety and security of their operations and personnel”.
