Regulations on Payment of Social Assistance in Place

Regulations relating to the application for and payment of social assistance and the requirements or conditions in respect of eligibility for social assistance are in place.

The social development department published the Regulations in Government Gazette 46459 in terms of the Social Assistance Act.

The Regulations focus on general requirements for eligibility to qualify for social assistance; application for social assistance; determination of financial criteria; payment of social assistance; review of social grants; special conditions for continuation of payment of social grant; standard rules and procedure applicable at agency offices and pay-points and general provisions.

The Regulations came into effect on the date of publication.

In Notice 2120, the department published Regulations relating to the lodging of applications for social assistance appeals and the consideration and adjudication of appeals by the Independent Tribunal.

The Regulations were drawn up in terms of the act.

They focus on the responsibilities of the agency in the administration of social assistance appeals; appointment and composition of Independent Tribunal; duties of members and powers of Independent Tribunal; lodging of appeal and condonation; consideration of appeal and administration of appeals.

The Regulations came into effect on the date of publication.
