Department of Social Development

Amendments to Regulations Relating to Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress are in the pipeline.

The social development department published the call for comment in Government Gazette 46680 in terms of the Social Assistance Act.

The deletion of sub-regulation (4) to Regulation 2 on bank verification is proposed.

A proposed sub-regulation (5) to Regulation 2 adjusts the income threshold for insufficient means to R624 per person per month.

A proposed sub-regulation (5A) stipulates that the social development minister may from time to time, in concurrence with the finance minister, amend the income threshold for insufficient means.

The draft amendments also seek to delete sub-regulation (2) on duration of payment in Regulation 5.

Comment is invited until 29 July 2022.
