Public workshops on the invitation to apply for an individual electronic communications network service licence and radio frequency spectrum licence for the Wireless Open Access Network (WOAN) are on the cards.
The Independent Communications Authority (ICASA) announced the workshops in Government Gazette 43919 in terms of the Electronic Communications Act.
ICASA invited applications for the licences for WOAN in Gazette 43767 in October 2020.
Obligations to form part of the licence conditions of the Radio Frequency Spectrum Licence include uplink and throughput obligations; open access obligations; spectrum assignment and 30% offtake.
According to ICASA, the successful Applicant will have a 7-year payment holiday in respect of Radio Spectrum Licence fees from the date of licence issuance.
The Beauty Contest licensing method for the licensing of the I-ECNS and Radio Frequency Spectrum will apply.
The applicant that meets all requirements and scores the highest on functionality will be awarded the licences.
Virtual workshops are planned for 9-11 December 2020.
