Proposed Levies for Piped-Gas and Petroleum Pipeline Industries Published

The energy department has published proposed levies on the piped-gas and petroleum pipeline industries for 2020/21 in Government Gazette 42697 for public comment.

The proposed levies, drawn up by the National Energy Regulator (NERSA), are published in terms of both the Gas Regulator Levies Act and the Petroleum Pipelines Levies Act.

NERSA is responsible for the regulation of the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipeline industries.

The total budget for the piped-gas industry stands at R85,234,615 while the budget for the petroleum pipelines industry stands at R77,468,256.

According to the notice, the total amount each industry will recover through levy income from the two industries stands at R77,964,905 for the piped-gas industry and R70,638,400 for the petroleum pipelines industry.

The proposed levy for the piped gas industry for 2020/21 is 42.995 c/Gj.

The proposed petroleum pipeline levy for 2020/21 is 0.39734 c/litre.

Written comment on the proposed levies is invited within 30 days of the date of publication of the notice.
