Parliament seeks comment on the 2020 Adjustments Appropriation Bill.
The bill was tabled in parliament on 24 June 2020 as part of the Special Adjustments Budget in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Adjustments Appropriation Bill aims to:
• effect adjustments to the appropriation of money from the National Revenue Fund for the requirements of the State in respect of the 2020/21 financial year; and
• provide for matters incidental thereto.
The standing committee on appropriations also seeks comment on the proposed amendment to Section 6 of the Appropriation Act of 2020.
The proposed amendment makes reference to the second Adjustments Appropriation Bill introduced in parliament.
Comment is invited until 28 July 2020.
Meanwhile, in a statement, national treasury announced the approval by the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank of a loan of approximately R5 billion ($288 million) to the South African government, as the country battles COVID-19 and an economic slowdown.
According to treasury, the program will “contribute to boosting government’s finances, allowing for the provision of critical healthcare resources and strengthening the social safety net in South Africa”.
