Occupational Diseases in Mines and Works Act Pensions Increased

Pension benefits in terms of the Occupational Diseases in Mines and Works Act have been increased.

The health department announced the increase in Government Gazette 44223.

Section 105A empowers the health minister to increase any benefit after consultation with the advisory committee and the finance minister.

The benefits increased by 4.06% per pensioner beneficiary per month with effect from 1 April 2020.

The department also announced that the one-sum benefit payable to the widow of a deceased pensioner increased from R44 226 to R46 022 with effect from 1 April 2020.

Meanwhile, in Gazette 44215, the department listed medicines for which a retention payment is due to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA).

Applicants have until 12 March 2021 to notify SAHPRA of their intention to retain the registration of the products.

Outstanding retention fees must be paid by 19 March 2021.
