More Time to Comment on Home Builders Manual

February 10, 2015

National Home Builders Registration Council

Stakeholders have been given more time to comment on the proposed Home Builders Manual.

The manual was drawn up by the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) and first released for comment in December 2014.

The extension notice was published in Government Gazette 38441.

The council plans to repeal the current manual that has been in place since 1999.

According to the notice, the manual contains the technical requirements and guidelines as set down by the NHBRC.

The decision to compile a new manual was driven by the need to align it with relevant pieces of legislation such as the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act of 1977, the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993 and broader sustainable human settlements issues.

A copy of the Draft Home Builders Manual is available at www.nhbrc.org.za.

Comment is now invited until 28 February 2015.
