A Draft Military Veterans Amendment Bill is in the pipeline.
The presidency confirmed this in a statement on the Presidential Task Team on Military Veterans briefing at the end of last week on the welfare of military veterans.
According to the presidency, the draft bill has already served before the Task Team in its first draft and referred back to the defence and military veterans minister, Thandi Modise, for further inputs.
“It is the amendment of this legislation which will enable improvements in how many services are offered to veterans.”
The presidency added that, once relevant consultations are concluded, the draft bill will be tabled before cabinet for approval.
Other work underway includes the review of the Special Pension Act and the development of the Pension Policy.
