Methodological Guidelines on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Drawn Up

Draft Methodological Guidelines for Quantification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions have been drawn up.

The environment, forestry and fisheries department published the draft Guidelines in Government Gazette 44190 for comment.

They were drafted in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act.

The draft Technical Guidelines are designed to provide guidance to reporting companies on methodologies to apply when quantifying Greenhouse Gas emissions from activities listed in Table 5.2 of the Guideline.

The draft Technical Guidelines also “support the tracking of progress towards this transition to a lower-carbon economy by providing methodological guidance for quantification of greenhouse gas emissions”.

Comment is invited within 30 days of the date of publication.

Other notices published by the department include:


• Gazette 44203 – call for nominations of suitable persons to be appointed as board members of the South African Weather Service – nominations invited within 30 days of the date of publication;
• Gazette 44204 – list of protected tree species under the National Forests Act – no person may cut, disturb, damage or destroy any protected tree or possess, collect, remove, transport, export, purchase, sell, donate or in any other manner acquire or dispose of any protected tree except under a license granted by the minister, or in terms of an exemption;
• Gazette 44205 – call for nominations of suitable persons to be appointed as members of the South African National Parks Board – nominations invited within 30 days of the date of publication.
