Measures to Combat COVID-19 in Railway Operations Amended

May 18, 2020

Department of Transport

Measures to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19 in railway operations have been amended.

The transport department published the amendment in Government Gazette 43322 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

Directions published in Gazette 43273 on 4 May 2020 are amended.

A new direction 13 is inserted.

It indicates that the Gautrain will also resume commuter services from Sandton station to Rhodesfield station.

Previously, the Directions only referred to services from Park Station to Hatfield station.

In terms of the Passenger Rail Agency (PRASA), reference to preparation for the resumption of its services during Alert Level 3 is removed.

“During Alert Level 4, PRASA will focus on the maintenance, servicing and testing of its fleet, and will further sanitize and disinfect its stations and hubs in preparation for the resumption of its services. “

The amendment came into effect on the date of publication.
