Amendments to the Legal Aid Manual have been tabled in parliament.

The Legal Aid Manual flows from the Legal Aid South Africa Act.

It focuses on, inter alia, the procedures relating to the administration of legal aid, the mixed model delivery system of legal aid and the requirements and criteria for accreditation of private legal practitioners.

Amendments are introduced to Paragraphs 4.4.1, 4.4.2 and 4.5, as well as Annexures B and C of the Manual.

According to the notice, the amendments relate to the allocation of instructions to Judicare practitioners in accordance with Legal Aid South Africa’s Judicare Accreditation System and the tariffs and fees payable to Judicare practitioners.

Amendments to certain naming conventions are also introduced.
