Increase in Fuel Levy on Aviation Fuel in the Pipeline

November 17, 2020

Department of Transport

An increase in the fuel levy on the sale of aviation fuel is on the cards.

The transport department published the proposed amendment of the determination made by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) imposing a fuel levy on the sale of aviation fuel in Government Gazette 43901.

The determination was made in terms of the South African Civil Aviation Authority Levies Act.

The CAA proposes to increase the fuel levy by Consumer Price Index-related figures for a period of one financial year commencing on 1 April 2021 and ending on 31 March 2022.

A levy of 19.2 cents per litre payable by consumers (including a wholesale distributor) on the sale of all aviation fuel manufactured, distilled, imported or sold in South Africa is proposed.

Comment is invited until 13 December 2020.
