ICT Covid-19 National Disaster Regulations Amended

Information and Communications Technology Covid-19 National Disaster Regulations have been amended.

The Independent Communications Authority (ICASA) published the amended Regulations in Government Gazette 45069 in terms of the Electronic Communications Act.

A new sub-regulation (5) is inserted into Regulation 6 stipulating that licensees must pay pro-rated radio frequency spectrum licence fees, in terms of the Radio Frequency Spectrum Licence Fees Regulations of 2010, for the period commencing on 1 September to 30 November 2021, for the bands specified in sub-regulations (3) and (4).

A new sub-regulation (5A) is also inserted stipulating that payment of fees, in terms of sub-regulation (5), must be made to ICASA by no later than 15 September 2021.

A new sub-regulation (7) indicates that no radio frequency spectrum licence assigned pursuant to sub-regulations (3) and (4) will be valid after 30 November 2021.

The amended Regulations came into effect on 1 September 2021.
