Human Sciences Research Council Board Seeks Members

Nominations of candidates to serve on the Human Sciences Research Council Board are invited.

The science and innovation department published the call for nominations in Government Gazette 44840.

The call is made in terms of Section 5 of the Human Sciences Research Council Act,.

The Board will consist of a Chairperson designated by the higher education, science and innovation minister with between six and nine other members and the Chief Executive Officer.

Appointed members will serve on a part-time basis for four years effective from 1 November 2021.

Nominations are invited until 23 July 2021.

Meanwhile, in Gazette 44822, the higher education and training department announced amendments to the Statute of the University of Mpumalanga.

Amendments were made in terms of Section 32 of the Higher Education Act.

Paragraph 8A on reappointment of the Chancellor is inserted stipulating that the Chancellor must be re-appointed to the office of Chancellor at a meeting of Council by a majority of the members of the Council with consideration for reappointment by secret ballot.

New paragraphs on composition, executive committee of the Council and committees are also inserted.

A new paragraph 55 stipulates that the university recognizes and registers all bodies or persons who donate to the university.

A Student Support Services Council is also to be set up to advise the Council on policies for student services within the university.

In Gazette 44837, the department invites comment on 16 proposed occupational qualifications for registration on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework for Trades and Occupations.

Comment is invited within 21 days of the date of publication.
