Gas Act Rules Drawn Up

June 2, 2021

Department of Mineral Resources and Energy

The National Energy Regulator (NERSA) has drawn up Rules in terms of Section 34(3) of the Gas Act.

The mineral resources and energy department published the Rules in Government Gazette 44636.

The Gas Act seeks to promote the orderly development of the piped gas industry; establish a national regulatory framework and establish a National Gas Regulator as the custodian and enforcer of the national regulatory framework.
NERSA called for comment on the Rules in February 2021.

The Rules focus on general requirements for documents submitted to the energy regulator; applications and objections to licence applications; consultation with affected and interested parties; complaints, investigations, inspections, and inquiries and general provisions.

The Rules came into effect on the date of publication.
