Forestry Master Plan on Track

October 30, 2020

Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries

The process for cabinet to approve the Forestry Master Plan is underway.

The environment, forestry and fisheries department confirmed this in a recent briefing on the transfer of state managed plantations.

The department pointed out that the release of the plantations also contributes to the transformation of the sector and it is committed to ensuring that the process is finalized.

In order to ensure support to communities, a Post Settlement Strategy is to be developed to guide the interventions to support beneficiaries to manage plantations optimally going forward.

The department indicated that the transfer of the plantations will kick-start the implementation of the Commercial Forestry Sector Masterplan, once Cabinet gives it the green light.

The department plans to focus on the release of small-and medium-sized plantations (Category B) and Woodlots (Category C plantations) and lease category A plantations.
