Essential Services Committee Varies Correctional Services Designation

The Essential Services Committee has varied the correctional services designation.

The employment and labour department announced the variation in Government Gazette 44293 in terms of the Labour Relations Act.

Services excluded from the designation include human resources, education, religious care, finance and agriculture and span duty.

The designation on services required for the functioning of courts has also been varied.

Services excluded include Human Resources at courts, regional and provincial offices of the justice and constitutional development department and the National Prosecuting Authority; administrative services at the regional and provincial offices of the justice and constitutional development department and National Prosecuting Authority and services rendered by groundsmen, cleaners, ushers and library assistants at courts.

Services have also been designated as essential services including security services for the purposes of securing the infrastructure, access control, property and information at water utilities and pump stations; laundry services in privately owned old age homes; emergency health services and the provision of emergency health facilities; nursing; aircraft maintenance services; port security and marine services which ensure the safe and expeditious flow of vessel traffic in port approaches and harbours and a safe stay at berth when moored or at anchor, including the services rendered by vessel controllers, pilots and tuggers.

In Notice 231, the department announced, in terms of the Labour Relations Act, the extension to non-parties of the National Textile Bargaining Council’s Employer and Trade Union Agency Shop Collective Agreement.

The extension comes into effect on the second Monday after publication and “shall remain in force until such time it is amended by the parties to the Council from time to time”.

In Gazette 44302, the department published a revised return of earnings prescribed form in terms of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
