EMPr for Gas Transmission Pipeline Infrastructure in Place

April 28, 2021

Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries

A Generic Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for Gas Transmission Pipeline Infrastructure (2020) is in place.

The environment, forestry and fisheries department published the EMPr in Government Gazette 44481 in terms of the National Environmental Management Act.

It was published for comment in July 2020.

The environmental management instrument is relevant to an application for environmental authorisation for gas transmission pipeline infrastructure located below- or above-ground for the purpose of connecting to above-ground infrastructure such as pigging stations or compressor stations, and the expansion of such facilities.

An EMPr sets out how negative environmental impacts are to be managed, rehabilitated and monitored and how positive impacts will be maximized.

The gas transmission Generic EMPr provides a pre-approved template that is to be used by an applicant when preparing an EMPr for gas transmission pipeline infrastructure.
