Draft Regulations on Citizenship Act Drawn Up

Draft Regulations on the Citizenship Act have been drawn up.

The home affairs department published the draft regulations in Government Gazette 43551 for comment.

Amendments are proposed to regulation 3 by the insertion of a new heading: “Certificate of naturalisation in terms of section 5 of Act”.

The draft amendments seek to insert new regulations 3A, 3B and 3C.

3A focuses on the Certificate of naturalisation in terms of section 4(3) of Act; 3B on Hearing and 3C on Register.

The supporting documents to accompany an application for naturalization are set down.

Prior to being issued with a certificate of naturalization, applicants must sign the declaration of allegiance.

The details of all persons who have been naturalised in terms of sections 4(3) and 5 of the act must be included in a Register to be kept and maintained by the Director-General.

Forms on application for certificate of naturalization; certificate of naturalization and declaration of allegiance are included.

Comment on the draft regulations is invited until 30 August 2020.
