Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries

Draft Methodological Guidelines for Quantification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions have been drawn up.

The environment, forestry and fisheries department published the Draft Guidelines in Government Gazette 43962 for comment.

They were drafted in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act of 2004.

The Draft Guidelines focus on carbon sequestration in the forestry industry to support the implementation of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting Regulations.

The Regulations are designed to introduce a single national reporting system for the transparent reporting of greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the notice, Regulation 10 of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting Regulations requires data providers to report using methods set out in the methodological guidelines for quantification of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Draft Guidelines focus on accounting rulebook; methodological guidelines for land activities in forest plantations and verification guidelines for carbon sequestration in forest plantations.

Comment is invited within 30 days of the date of publication.
