The public service and administration department wants to motivate to cabinet to be appointed as the lead department that will manage and coordinate Thusong Service Centres nationally.

The deputy minister of public service and administration, Sindisiwe Chikunga, announced this during a speech at the Thusong Service Centre Indaba in Cape Town.

A Thusong Service Centre is a one-stop service centre providing information and services to communities via the development communication approach in an integrated manner.

The call to coordinate the centres stems from the department’s 2018 study report on the centres.

Other recommendations contained in the report include the signing of a service level agreement with the State Information Technology Agency to ensure adequate information and communication technology in the centres, the holding of a Thusong Indaba to draw up a vision for the centres, seeking funding from national treasury to obtain necessary infrastructure, appointing centre managers at each centre and drawing up a repositioning strategy.
