Department of Mineral Resources

17 July 2019

The mineral resources department plans to set up and maintain long term access to test sites for geochemical and geophysical tests to be conducted.

The department published the call for comment on the proposal in Government Gazette 42576.

The call is made in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act.

According to the notice, the test sites are the Roodeplat site for ground geophysical tests and the Vredefort site for airborne geophysical tests.

The department also wants to establish suitable sites for the passive treatment of mine water as a result of acid mine drainage challenges and devise techniques for remediation.

Priority discharge and/or seepage areas required for the passive treatment plants are listed.

Comment is invited within 30 days of the date of publication.
