Disaster Management Act Regulations Amended

Disaster Management Act Regulations have been amended.

The cooperative governance department published the amended Regulations in Government Gazette 44158.

A new subregulation (4) is inserted into Regulation 36.

It stipulates that gatherings at political events and traditional community meetings (izimbizo) are prohibited.

A new Table 2 on adjusted alert level 3 and areas declared as hotspots is also inserted.

Reference to political events and traditional community meetings (izimbizo) is added to the list of specific exclusions.

Meanwhile, in Gazette 44159, the department announced a new Regulation 42 on partial reopening of borders.

It stipulates that the 20 land borders that were partially operational will be fully operational and the 33 land borders that were closed will remain closed.

International air travel remains restricted to OR Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport and Cape Town International Airport.

Table 2 is amended by the inclusion of the 33 land borders that remain closed in the list of specific exclusions.

The amendments came into effect on the date of publication.
