Disaster Management Act Regulations Amended

July 1, 2021

Department of Cooperative Governance

Disaster Management Act Regulations have been amended.

The cooperative governance department published the amended Regulations in Government Gazette 44778.

A new subregulation (1) is inserted into Regulation 18 on opening and closure of schools, early childhood development centres and institutions of higher learning.

The amendments stipulate that schools and institutions of higher learning must be closed for contact classes from 30 June 2021.

However, the closure of schools does not apply to the winter vacation learner support programme for grade 11 and grade 12 learners as organized by provincial education departments, districts or schools.

An amendment to Regulation 21 on gatherings stipulates that hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts, timeshare facilities, resorts and guest houses are allowed full capacity of available rooms for accommodation.

Regulation 29 on the sale, dispensing or transportation of liquor is amended to allow for the transportation of liquor from manufacturing plants to storage facilities and from licensed premises for safe keeping.

The amendments came into effect on the date of publication.
