Directions to Combat Covid-19 in Sport, Arts and Culture Amended

Directions to prevent and combat Covid-19 in sport, arts and culture have been amended.

The sports, arts and culture department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 44699.

They were drawn up in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

A new subparagraph (d) is inserted into paragraph 2.

It stipulates that sporting activities, including both professional and non-professional matches, by recognized sporting bodies, are allowed subject to strict adherence to the times of operation.

However, spectators may still not attend matches.

A new subparagraph (e) stipulates that international sport events involving countries with a low or medium Covid-19 infection and transmission rate are allowed.

Detail on gatherings at various venues including cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries, libraries, archives, gyms and fitness centres is set down.

Closing times for venues including public swimming pools is set at 22h00.

Paragraph 6D on control measures is also amended including no consumption of alcohol at all sporting events including parks, sports bodies must adjust the resumption time of matches to comply with the cut-off time of 20h00 and health protocols for venues.

Paragraph 6J on concerts and entertainment events is deleted.

The amended directions came into effect on the date of publication.
