Directions on Social Relief of Distress Grant Amended

The social development department has amended Directions on measures to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The amended Directions were published in Government Gazette 45302 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

Subparagraph (3)(j) is inserted into Direction 3 on the Social Relief of Distress Grant.

It stipulates that the R350 grant can be paid to a “caregiver without a valid 13-digit identity number and who possesses a system generated number provided by SASSA”.

Direction 6A is also inserted stipulating that a caregiver without a valid 13-digit identity number and possessing a system generated number provided by the Social Security Agency who applies for the Social Relief of Distress Grant during the months of September and October 2021 that is approved, will be paid retrospectively from the month of August 2021 as if the grant application had been approved in the month of August 2021.

A new paragraph (c) in Direction 11 stipulates that payments for the previous SRD grant from 1 May 2020 until 30 April 2021 not withdrawn by a beneficiary by 30 November 2021 will be forfeited to the State.

The amended Directions came into effect on the date of publication.
