Directions on Services Rendered by Home Affairs Amended

July 7, 2020

Department of Home Affairs

Directions on services to be rendered by the home affairs department during COVID-19 Alert Level 3 have been amended.

The home affairs department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 43504.

Additional services to be provided by the home affairs department during Alert Level 3 include late registration of births; solemnisation and registration of marriages and applications for identity cards or documents for learners.

Paragraph 23 on applications for entry into South Africa is inserted.

A person who falls outside of the categories allowed to enter South Africa can apply in writing to the home affairs minister and “demonstrate exceptional circumstances for his or her request to enter the Republic during the period of the national state of disaster”.

Applications must be supported by a copy of a passport and a copy of a temporary residence visa.

“A person who is allowed entry into the Republic will be subjected to the prescribed screening procedures and isolation or quarantine rules, as the case may be.”

The Third Amendment Directions came into effect on the date of publication.
