Directions on International and Domestic Flights Amended

Directions on international flights and domestic flights have been amended.

The transport department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 43550 in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

A new Direction 5 on international flights and domestic flights is inserted.

Direction 5 stipulates that all international passenger flights are prohibited, except those flights authorised by the transport minister.

The list of domestic airports from which domestic passenger flights are permitted is provided including East London Airport; George Airport and Kimberly Airport.

The amended Directions came into effect on the date of publication.

Meanwhile, in Gazette 43548, the department published adjusted South African Maritime Safety Authority levies.

The adjusted levies were set down in terms of the South African Maritime Safety Authority Levies Act.

Ships required to hold a local safety certificate issued in terms of the Merchant Shipping Act must pay R 20.37 per metre overall length or part thereof per calendar year or part thereof; fishing vessels not required to hold a local safety certificate issued in terms of the Merchant Shipping Act must pay R 139.43 per 100 tons or part thereof and all other ships must pay R 139.43 per 100 tons or part thereof.

The adjusted levies apply from 24 August 2020.

In Gazette 43543, the department has called for comment on Civil Aviation Regulations:


• Notice 810 – Parts to be amended include Part 21 (Certification Procedures for Products and Parts); Part 106 (Paragliding & Hang-Gliding) and Part 108 (Air Cargo Security); and
• Notice 811– Parts to be amended include Part 1 (Abbreviation and Definitions relating to Regulation 139) and Part 139 (Aerodromes and Infrastructure).

Technical standards are also to be amended.

Comment on the draft amendments is invited until 24 August 2020.
