Directions on Gatherings for Sports, Arts and Culture Activities Drawn Up

Directions on gatherings relating to sports, arts and culture activities have been drawn up.

The sports, arts and culture department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 43776 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

Paragraph 1 is amended by the insertion of a new definition on ‚Äúplaces or premises‚ÄĚ.

Places or premises means ‚Äúlibraries, galleries, theatres, museums, cinemas, fitness centres and gyms, sports grounds and fields, swimming pools, beaches, public parks and archives”.

A new subparagraph (d) is added to paragraph 2.

It sets down the conditions under which sport, arts and culture activities, including both professional and non-professional matches, by recognised sporting bodies, are allowed.

The Directions stipulate that spectators are still not allowed at the venue or precinct of a sports venue during a match.

The Directions also stipulate that international sport, arts and cultural events involving countries with a low or medium COVID-19 infection and transmission rate is to be allowed.

A new Paragraph 6 on resumption of sport, arts and cultural activities is inserted confirming that international sport, arts and culture events involving countries with a low or medium COVID-19 infection and transmission rate are allowed.

However, international sport, arts and culture events involving countries with a high COVID-19 infection and transmission rate are not allowed.

New paragraphs on resumption of sporting activities, screening and testing of players and support staff, disinfection and cleaning of sporting venue, control measures, appointment of compliance officer, opening of places or premises to the public and concerts and live performances are inserted.

The Directions came into effect on the date of publication.
