Directions on the dates for the reopening of schools and measures to combat Covid-19 have been amended.

The basic education department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 44096 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

The Directions provide for the amended dates for the reopening of schools for the 2021 academic year.

Direction 5B setting out the dates for the reopening of schools for the 2021 academic year is inserted.

The school management team is set to return on 25 January 2021, teachers by 1 February 2021 and learners by 15 February 2021.

The Direction also stipulates that independent schools must delay the date for the reopening of schools for learners to return to school for a period of two weeks from the minister’s announcement on 15 January 2021.

The amended Directions came into effect on the date of publication.
