Directions on Communications and Digital Technologies Sector Amended

Directions on the risk-adjusted strategy for the communications and digital technologies sector have been amended.

The communications and digital technologies department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 43439.

A new heading is inserted in Paragraph 3 – “Opening of Communications and Digital Technologies Sectors and mitigation measures – Alert Levels 5 and 4”.

A new paragraph 3A on the “Opening of Communications and Digital Technologies Sectors and mitigation measures – Alert Level 3” is also inserted into the Directions.

Mitigation measures according to level, sector and subsector are set out.
Sectors and subsectors allowed to operate at alert level 3 include electronic communications services and electronic communications network services as defined in the Electronic Communications Act (telecommunications service and infrastructure), broadcasting services and postal services.

The Directions came into effect on the date of publication.

Meanwhile, the department has called for nominations to fill three vacancies on the Board of the South African Post Office.

The successful candidates will serve as non-executive members on the Board.

The appointees will serve on a part-time basis for a period not exceeding three years subject to an annual performance assessment.

Nominations are invited until 26 June 2020.
