Directions on the Risk-Adjusted Strategy for the Communications and Digital Technologies Sector have been amended.

The telecommunications and postal services department published the amended Directions in Government Gazette 44814 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

A new paragraph 3 on mitigation measures – Alert Levels 3, 4 and 5 as adjusted is inserted.

Mitigation measures for various sectors and subsectors are set down.

The sectors and subsectors include electronic communications services and electronic communications network services as defined in the Electronic Communications Act; broadcasting services and postal services.

In terms of electronic communications services and electronic communications network services, mitigation measures include products to be sanitised prior to packaging; staff to be thermal scanned daily; clear signage highlighting health protocols and ensuring compliance with social distancing requirements to be placed in retail stores; technicians to wear masks and keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters from the customer when installing or repairing end-user and subscriber equipment.

As regards courier services, couriers must be thermal scanned daily and sanitise throughout the day; all equipment and materials used must be sanitised more than once daily; courier drivers must have face masks and vehicles must be sanitized daily before the commencement of a shift.

Paragraph 3A of the Directions on Opening of Communications and Digital Technologies Sectors and Mitigation Measures – Alert Level 3 is deleted.

The amended Directions came into effect on the date of publication.
