Determination on New Generation Capacity Set Down

April 20, 2022

Department of Mineral Resources and Energy

The mineral resources and energy department seeks 344 megawatts (MW) to be generated from battery energy storage systems.

The determination on new generation capacity was published in Government Gazette 46242 in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act.

The determination also calls for 60MW to be generated from solar PV.

The plan is for the electricity to be connected to the grid as soon as reasonably possible in line with the timetable set out in Table 5 of the IRP 2019.

The new generation capacity is to be bought by Eskom.
