Date for 2021 Local Government Elections Set Down

The 2021 local government elections will take place on 1 November 2021.

The cooperative governance and traditional affairs department announced the date of the elections in Government Gazette 45188 in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act.

In a statement, the department pointed out that the upcoming elections will be the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since 1994.

The department added that the gazetting of the election date means that the Electoral Commission will seal the voters’ roll.

Meanwhile, the department, in Gazette 45181, published Guidelines for the Implementation of the Municipal Staff Regulations.

The Guidelines were drawn up in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act.

They focus on, inter alia, staff establishment, job description, and job evaluation; recruitment, selection, and appointment of staff; performance management and development system and skills development.

In Notice 890, the department published Local Government: Municipal Staff Regulations in terms of the act.
