Dashboard on Service Delivery Challenges Developed

February 1, 2019

Department of Science and Technology

A new dashboard that could provide a solution to the government’s service delivery challenges has been developed.

In a statement, the science and technology department announced that the dashboard was developed to assist the planning, monitoring and evaluation department.

The department was tasked with undertaking an intensive analysis of the performance of provincial government departments to address ongoing challenges around service delivery.

The dashboard, developed by a group of data science students, “aims to assist with identifying challenges and establishing an early warning system for issues such as service delivery complaints, budget appropriations and expenditure, 30-day payments and vacancy rates, among others”.

The hope is that the information generated by the dashboard can help government to deal with issues before they manifest in protests.

The students are part of the annual Data Science for Impact and Decision Enhancement Programme funded by the department and implemented by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

“The programme aims to solve real-life problems using multiple technical disciplines, including computer science, analytics, mathematics, modelling and statistics.”
