The validity period for the COVID-19 agricultural relief fund vouchers has been extended.
The COVID-19 Agricultural Disaster Fund of R1,2 billion sought to address the effects of the Coronavirus and ensure sustainable food production post the pandemic.
Vouchers have been issued to provinces since 18 May 2020.
In an earlier statement, the agriculture, land reform and rural development department indicated that the services of different suppliers had been engaged through an open supply chain management process to avoid any delay in the delivery of various inputs.
Farmers can approach suppliers with the vouchers to receive necessary inputs for farming purposes.
In the latest statement, the department points out that the vouchers were due to expire on 30 June 2020.
The validity period of the vouchers is now being extended to 31 July 2020.
According to the department, the agriculture, land reform and rural development minister’s decision is “aimed at ensuring that farmers and suppliers transact successfully without pressure of time and that suppliers make available enough stock”.
