Consolidated Directions on OHS Measures in Workplaces Drawn Up

Consolidated Directions on occupational health and safety measures in certain workplaces have been drawn up.

The employment and labour department published the Directions in Government Gazette 43751 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.

The Directions apply to employers and workers in workplaces who are permitted to continue or commence operations under the Regulations.

The Directions do not apply to workplaces excluded from the Occupational Health and Safety Act or where other regulations on health and safety of employees are in place.

The Directions focus on risk assessment and plans for protective measures; administrative measures; social distancing measures; symptom screening; sanitizers, disinfectants and washing of hands; cloth masks; measures in respect of workplaces to which public has access; ventilation; specific personal protective equipment; small businesses; worker obligations; refusal to work due to exposure to COVID-19 and sectoral protocols and guidelines.

Annexure A sets down a list of links to key documents and regulations.

Annexure B contains sectoral guidelines while Annexure C contains a list of contact details for provincial inspectorates.

The Directions came into effect on the date of publication.
