Competition Tribunal Receives Complaint Referrals

The Competition Tribunal has received two complaints pertaining to Corobrik (Pty) Ltd.

The economic development department announced the complaint referrals in Government Gazette 42756.

The Competition Commission alleges that Corobrik (Pty) Ltd and Killarney Brickfields (Pty) Ltd and Corobrik (Pty) Ltd and Bosun Structures and Precast (Pty) Ltd T/A Smartstone KwaZulu-Natal engaged in prohibited practice in contravention of the Competition Act 89 of 1998.

Meanwhile, the department recently briefed parliament on its 2018/19 Annual Report.

Highlights include the signing of the Competition Amendment Act in February 2019, all market inquiries including the health market, data market, public passenger transport market and the grocery retail market to be completed in the 2019/20 financial year, the Investment Conference held in October 2018 that raised R290bn in investment pledges and trade policy facilitation in the steel and sugar industries.
