Comment Sought on Social Service Practitioner’s Bill

A draft bill designed to set up the South African Council for Social Service Practitioners has been published for comment.

The social development department published the Draft Social Service Practitioner’s Bill in Government Gazette 43145.

The draft bill aims to:


• provide for the establishment of a South African Council for Social Service Practitioners;
• determine its composition, powers and functions;
• provide for the establishment, composition, powers and functions of social service professional boards and social service occupational boards;
• provide for the registration of social service practitioners;
• promote and regulate the education, training and professional development of social service practitioners;
• regulate the professional conduct of social service practitioners; and
• provide for incidental matters.

Comment is invited within 60 calendar days of the date of publication.
